Carolina Gonzalez
Clinical Psychologist
Carolina is a Clinical Psychologist with a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from the Universidad de Talca in Chile, and postgraduate qualifications from The University of Queensland, where she completed a Master of Mental Health and a PhD in Psychology. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), the Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy (AACBT), and the Australasian Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ASTSS).
Carolina has worked across a wide range of clinical settings and is experienced in supporting children, adolescents, and adults facing diverse mental health challenges. She has a particular interest and expertise in trauma, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and is an Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. She also provides support for women’s health and wellbeing across the lifespan, including parenting challenges, postnatal depression, and fertility concerns.
Carolina’s therapeutic approach is flexible and integrative, drawing on evidence-based models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Brief Strategic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and trauma-focused interventions such as EMDR and Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET). She also incorporates creative approaches such as Art Therapy when appropriate. Carolina tailors each session to meet her client's goals, supporting personal growth.
In addition to her clinical work, Carolina is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Parenting and Family Support Centre at The University of Queensland. She previously worked as a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Southern Queensland. Her research focuses on supporting parents and families, particularly the prevention of child maltreatment and family violence, and parents’ promotion of their children’s pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours. She is also a board-approved supervisor.
