Main Areas of Interest

Lea has experience working with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, Obsessive Compulsive disorder and perfectionistic traits, behaviour problems and social difficulties, experiences of bullying and learning difficulties, developing confidence and self-esteem, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Lea also has experience assessing behavioural, social, emotional and learning difficulties for school-aged children through to young adults.

Anxiety and Depression
Lea has a special interest in working with individuals who are experiencing anxiety or depression, or both. A change in mood is a normal experience, but sometimes it can have a great impact on our everyday life and if left untreated may also cause avoidance and fear of people and places. Lea works with the client to understand what they are experiencing and why, and learn how to manage and overcome these difficulties.

Behaviour Problems and Learning Difficulties
Lea has substantial working experience in providing parents and individuals with support around understanding behaviour problems and what may have caused them. She works with clients and their family to utilise different strategies to better manage and resolve complex behaviours that may be impacting the individual’s ability to learn, socialise and regulate their behaviour and emotions. Lea also has experience in conducting cognitive assessments with children and young people to help them to better understand how they learn and what may be impacting their ability to learn, as well as identifying any learning disorders that may be present.

Social Difficulties and Bullying
Lea has a special interest in supporting individuals with developing their social skills, managing interpersonal conflict and school and workplace bullying. She works with clients to manage these experiences, including learning practical skills, as well as providing support around the impact of the bullying including enhancing self-confidence and self-esteem, and learning to manage and overcome associated anxiety or depression.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder
Lea has substantial working experience in diagnosing and treating ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. These diagnoses can vary in presentation for each client, and Lea understands the importance of learning about each client individually and tailoring a treatment program to suit their individual needs. Intervention can include support around developing emotion literacy and emotion regulation skills, challenging rigid thinking patterns and engaging in perspective taking, developing social skills and managing interpersonal conflict, and practical strategies to manage hyperactivity, difficulties with focus and hyper-reactivity to sensory input.

Approach to Therapy

Lea believes in working collaboratively with her client within a client-centered approach to achieve their goals. Within sessions she forms a tailored treatment plan for the client that includes different techniques and therapies that are evidenced in research to be effective. Lea believes in helping clients to develop knowledge and skills that can continue to be utilised effectively throughout life.
