What is an Accredited MH Social worker?
Leonie has completed specific training in focused psychological interventions and had supervision with Clinical Psychologist for over 2 years to be eligible for delivering Focused Psychological Strategies like registered Psychologist’s under Medicare. You will be able to claim medicare rebates if you see Leonie in 2022.
Approach to Therapy
Leonie works with children infants, children aged 5 to 18 years, families, adults, older adults, women, People with Disabilities, and Couples.

Leonie is an experienced practitioner and therapist with 15 years counselling experience. She has completed a Degree in Social Work in 2013 and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling 2016. Leonie is currently completing a Masters in Mental Health. Leonie provides professional, focused support to empower individuals, families, groups and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being.
Leonie is a CBT practitioner utilising a range of therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Gestalt, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy. She also bring Play Therapy into her work with children.
Leonie has not always been a Social Worker and Therapist. She began her career as a Registered Nurse, and moved into Social work. She has since completed training in mental health therapy and is a registered NDIS and EAP Provider. Leonie has been running her own private counselling practice in Western QLD prior to joining KCPSYCH.
Leonie is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) since 2009, and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
Leonie is an NDIS Approved Provider and advocate for NDIS Participants. Leonie has worked as a qualified and experienced NDIS Support Coordinator. She utilises her knowledge in disability and matters relating to mental health to build to empower people with disabilities, and those living with mental health issues, along with their families and carers to live their best lives.
Children and Families
Leonie has a deep enthusiasm for working with children and adults with ASD and ADHD and utilises different types of play therapy, cognitive behavioural strategies, and works with the parent caregiver to assist the client. Leonie works with children and families and has experience in child custody issues through Child Safety, the Family Court and coping with separation and divorce. She works with the family system and assists with parenting skills and relationships.
Couples Counselling and Relationships
Leonie has completed training in Emotion Focused Couples Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Health Relationships. Leonie works with clients to manage emotional escalation, negative interaction patterns, emotional withdrawal and loss of intimacy. She is also trained in conflict resolution and mediation. Leonie provides a safe place for couples and individual clients to work through their difficulties.
Workplace and EAP
Another area of interest for Leonie is in the corporate space. She has experience in Employment Assistance (EAP) Programs, Change Management in the Workplace, and she has completed training in conflict resolution and negotiation. She is a Member of the Queensland Foster and Kinship Care Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) Australian and American Chapters.
Leonie utilises several evidence-based Therapies including, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Gestalt, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
