Occupational Therapist
Mathieu (Mat) is an occupational therapist with a focus on mental health and cognitive rehabilitation. Originally from Montreal, Canada (Tiohtià:ke, Turtle Island), he has a Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Health Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Ottawa. While studying, he was a Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Commissioner and continues to be involved and passionate about creating a practice that is decolonial, trauma-informed, queer- and neurodiversity-affirming.
For the last three years, Mat has worked in outpatient clinics for people diagnosed with psychotic disorders. He is passionate about bridging the gaps between mental health, neurodiversity, sensory modulation and cognitive challenges. Mat typically works with youth and adults, of 12 years of age or older and can assist in the completion of functional capacity assessments (FCA). He is also happy to help and welcomes clients from the LGBTQ+, BIPOC and neurodivergent communities.
Mat’s areas of training include: sensory modulation, motivational interviewing, substance use and harm reduction, hoarding assessment and intervention, suicide safety, cultural responsiveness training (Indigenous Allied Health Australia). Mat is also trained in functional cognition assessments to best assist clients having difficulties in their day-to-day occupations and executive functioning skills. His relevant trainings in this domain include: Allen’s Cognitive Level Screen (ACLS) & Perceive, Recall, Plan and Perform (PRPP) System of Task Analysis.
